Testing Out of ENL

The only way to be free from ENL is to test out of it via the NYSESLAT.

Once a student is in the ENL program, they must pass the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test with a score of Commanding-Proficient to be out of the program. This exam occurs only once a year (in May).

If the student is Expanding (one level below Commanding) AND scores 3 or 4 on the State ELA exam, then they can leave the ENL program.
